Portfolio // 2026

Brandon F.
Mahdavi.

B.S. Computer Science from San Diego State (May 2026), specializing in AI-assisted software engineering as a daily driver. Shipping production software since 2018 — pairing with Claude Code to deliver full-stack web apps, custom Linux kernels, and AWS-hosted infrastructure end-to-end.

CompTIA Security+ certified. Coursework in AI, OS internals, and applied security grounds every LLM-augmented workflow in fundamentals.

Brandon at work

I wrote my first production code as a high-school intern at OnSolve (formerly MIR3), building a Java CLI against their Intelligent Notification SOAP API — the same reference code their technical partner used to learn the platform. I was sixteen.

Since then I've designed SQL databases for regulated lab workflows at Bioduro-Sundia, written test scripts that cut post-release issues by 15%, and drafted GMP equipment protocols to standardize lab documentation. In parallel I've kept shipping — home networks, security systems, and smart-home installs across San Diego.

I earned my B.S. in Computer Science from San Diego State in May 2026, with coursework across software systems, algorithms, machine learning, UNIX administration, wireless networks, and applied security. I like the layer where operating systems, networking, and security meet — and I like making that layer invisible to the person using it.

Today my daily driver is Claude Code. I pair with it on everything from cross-compiling Linux kernels to scaffolding accessibility-clean React components to provisioning hardened nginx + TLS on AWS. The fundamentals from CS 480 (operating systems), CS 470 (UNIX), and CS 575 (network security) keep every agentic workflow honest — I read what the model writes, and I know when to overrule it.

A few things I've shipped — from enterprise platforms to hands-on network installs.

2026 Personal Project Featured

OpenWrt Mesh & Banana Pi R4 Custom Linux Kernel

Secured and unified a mixed-vendor home network behind a Banana Pi R4 running OpenWrt — replacing stock firmware on Google Wifi mesh nodes, configuring wireless backhaul, and tuning routing/firewall policies for single-subnet connectivity and centralized firewall enforcement.

Built and deployed a custom Linux kernel for the Banana Pi R4 with Claude Code as primary pair-programmer — driving cross-compile toolchain setup, kernel config debugging, and patch authoring — enabling the device to serve as the central OpenWrt gateway.

brandon.mahcom.com — Personal Portfolio

Designed, built, and deployed a responsive single-page portfolio (HTML, Tailwind, JS) — paired with Claude Code for component scaffolding, accessibility audits, and iterative design polish. Hosted on AWS EC2 with nginx, Let's Encrypt TLS, and registrar-API DNS — Claude Code drove provisioning, hardening, and the deploy pipeline.

Home Network & Security Systems

Configuring residential internet, Wi-Fi, and connected-device environments for multiple households — routers, extenders, cameras, smart-home devices. Installing and supporting electronic security systems end-to-end, from network topology to device integration.

LIMS Data Pipeline & GMP Tooling

Designed SQL databases to import 100+ product specifications into the laboratory LIMS. Authored test scripts that cut post-release issues by 15%, and drafted complex GMP equipment protocols that standardized setup documentation.

Intelligent Notification SOAP Client

Built a Java application to create and initiate multi-modal mass notifications via OnSolve's Intelligent Notification SOAP API — Email, SMS, Pager, voice (text-to-speech), and mobile. Shipped as reference code used by OnSolve's technical partner to onboard the platform.

What I do.

I work across the stack — from silicon-adjacent systems to the screens people actually touch.

Network & Security Setup

Home and small-business network design, Wi-Fi optimization, camera and access-control installs, and hardening from the router outward.

AI-Augmented Development

Daily-driver Claude Code workflows — from kernel patches to React components. Agentic pipelines, prompt engineering, and the judgment to know when to overrule the model.

API Integration

SOAP, REST, and partner-facing reference implementations. Comfortable with request lifecycles, auth flows, and the unglamorous retry logic that holds it together.

Database Design

Relational schema design and data pipelines — with real-world experience in regulated GMP laboratory environments.

Security Consulting

CompTIA Security+ certified. TLS fundamentals, PKI and hashing concepts, network traffic analysis, and applied security for small-scale deployments.

UNIX / Linux Administration

Ubuntu, Debian, Kali, FreeBSD, OpenBSD. Server management, systems coursework, and the muscle memory that comes from living in a terminal.

Coursework Highlights

Where the curriculum meets Claude Code.

  • Operating Systems (CS 480) — Concurrency, memory management, kernel internals — directly applied in the Banana Pi R4 kernel build, where Claude Code accelerated config and debug cycles.
  • Intro to Artificial Intelligence (CS 450) — Python implementations of search, learning, and reasoning — the conceptual backbone for evaluating LLM behavior and structuring agentic workflows.
  • UNIX System Administration (CS 470) — Shell scripting, server management, deployment automation — translates into AWS EC2 hardening and Claude Code-driven nginx/TLS pipelines on brandon.mahcom.com.
  • Network Traffic Analysis & Security (CS 575) — Packet capture, protocol analysis, applied network security — sharpens threat-aware review when Claude Code touches network, auth, or TLS code.
